How to Keep Positive When It’s Pouring

I haven’t written a post in a few weeks because my “day” job has kept me pretty busy, and frankly, it has felt like I have a lot going on. It’s been overwhelming to me and as I finally saw some positive light in my tunnel today, I felt like I should write this post for myself. Sometimes I feel like I write my posts for me and hope that others can benefit from it. So here is how I have been dealing with my life, keeping positive, and embracing the challenges that come along with adulting, and I hope it can help you too.

Stop ignoring the problem

Have you guys ever seen that meme about ignoring your bank account when it’s low? I am the epitome of that. My car broke down (the clutch) and I knew it was a big fix coming so I just parked it in its space and went on living and just looked the other way when I walked by. I drive a Mini Cooper, which I love, but it’s always a large expense with maintenance and repairs. Thanks BMW. So after a day or two of ignoring the problem, and not being able to go anywhere without Lyft, I had to face it. It ended up being a relief to address the issue and face it head on.

Remember that this too will pass

So we’ve all heard the phrase “When it rains, it pours.” Sometimes it’s overwhelming when life tests us, one little thing can feel like a monstrous thing. I legit cried yesterday because of a breakout on top of everything else. It can feel like everything bad always happens to you. It takes a special person to just completely rebound and be ready to attack the next thing immediately one after another. It’s helpful to remember that everything is constantly moving and changing, and after the rain comes a rainbow. Cliche cliche, but you know it’s true. It’s easier to notice the bad things, but remember how much good goes on every single day, even if you get a zit, and stub your toe, and drop your coffee all in one day. Say it with me, stay positive.

Rely on those you trust

In the moment, it can feel like everything is wrong, you don’t have anyone on your side, no one gets what you’re going through. Sometimes, it can even be embarrassing to talk to someone about what’s going on. But you have to fight past that and talk to someone you trust. Sometimes just the process of talking through it can be soothing. And get past the embarrassment; the truth is, there is no such thing as someone having their life together. We all have things going on behind the scenes. No one is perfect and no one expects you to be either. Plus, you never know when unexpected support can come your way.

Help always comes when you need it

I am not a religious person, but I do think that there is an ebb and flow to life, and probably a higher power out there. During these rainstorms, shelter can come in the most unexpected places. It may not be in the form you imagined, or from whom you imagined it from, but life always has your back. Especially when it doesn’t feel like it.

Overall, everything is falling into place for me, and it will for you too. Be ready to recognize and embrace life when it’s on the upswing.
